The reasoning behind Mr. DeVivo’s announcement to leave was not stated and his successor has not been named. Mr. DeVivo began his time at Smith & Nephew as the head of its orthopedic reconstruction and trauma unit and has been president of the company’s orthopedics division since 2008.

The company is planning on combining the orthopedics and endoscopy units going forward, and the new division will be called the Advanced Surgical Devices Division. Michael G. Frassette, leader of the endoscopy unit in Andover, Mass., was recently named president of the Advanced Surgical Devices.
