Avitus Orthopaedics launches Avitus Bone Harvester — 5 highlights

Farmington, Conn-based Avitus Orthopaedics has launched its FDA-cleared Avitus Bone Harvester product.

Here are five highlights:

 

1. The Avitus Bone Harvester is a surgical instrument for harvesting autologous bone graft and bone marrow in a minimally invasive manner for use in a range of spine and orthopedic procedures.

 

2. Avitus expects to receive a CE Mark for the instrument in Europe later this year.

 

3. Avitus will be launching a series B financing round in the third quarter of 2016 to support its sales expansion in the U.S. and international markets.

 

4. The National Science Foundation awarded Avitus a Small Business Innovation Research award to continue research and product development.

 

5. Biomedical engineers in the Johns Hopkins University Center for Bioengineering Innovation and Design in Baltimore and spinal surgeons from the Johns Hopkins Medical Institute, also in Baltimore, founded Avitus Orthopaedics in 2011.
