Dr. Jennifer Seifert joins TissueGen as Senior Scientist — 8 things to note

TissueGen, developer of ELUTE fiver, a biodegradable fiber format for advanced drug delivery, appointed Jennifer Seifert, PhD, as the senior scientist.

Here are eight notes:

 

1. Dr. Seifert will be head of TissueGen’s application of ELUTE fiber technology to treat spinal cord injuries and related applications for regenerative medicine.

 

2. She previously held the position of research assistant professor in the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Texas in Dallas.

 

3. Dr. Seifert has a background in molecular biology and neuroscience, leading her to focus her research on the development of repair strategies for the central and peripheral nervous systems applying cellular and molecular mechanisms of axonal growth.

 

4. Dr. Seifert will lead TissueGen’s SCI repair program during the Phase II animal trials in an effort to find a cure for paralysis.

 

5. She teamed with Texas Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas to devise an animal model of distraction and spinal cord injury.

 

6. Dr. Seifert’s work on evaluating nerve regeneration through a biosynthetic nerve conduit created a wireless device and protocol for recording somatosensory evoked potentials and tested the reliability and stability of a regenerative nerve electrode interface.

 

7. She has earned various honors including being selected for the Chancellor’s Research Award in 2006, 2007 and 2008.

 

8. Dr. Seifert was awarded a grant from the Scoliosis Research Society for “Neuroprotection Against Oxidative Stress in an Animal Model of Distraction Spinal Cord Injury.”
