“This is a great addition to our growing product line,” said Marty Altshuler, ChoiceSpine principal. “We look forward to building relationships with previous VEO users and distributors as well as strengthen our existing relationships by expanding our product offerings.”

Here are five quick facts about the acquisition:

1. Baxano Surgical filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in late 2014 and plans to sell all its product lines. In addition to the VEO system, Baxano plans to sell the iO-Flex minimally invasive lumbar decompression system, iO-Tome facetectomy system, AxiaLIF and Vectre and Avatar posterior fixation systems.

2. The technology acquisition expands ChoiceSpine’s efforts to grow the company’s Western footprint. “By adding a lateral system to our product offerings, as well as launching four new products in 2015, we can easily say we are moving forward in the spinal marketplace,” said Principal Rick Henson.

3. The VEO system is the first of five new product offerings ChoiceSpine plans to launch before the end of the year.

4. ChoiceSpine is making it the transition from Baxano to Choice Spine “as seamless as possible for our distributors,” said ChoiceSpine Director of Business Development Anderson Collins.

5. ChoiceSpine is a Knoxville, Tenn.-based spine device company focused on developing products for spinal disorder and deformity treatment. Other ChoiceSpine products include the Blackbird Posterior Cervical Spinal System, Falcon Anterior Cervical Plating System, Lancer Pedicle Screw System and Harpoon Shark Interbody Implants.
