5 things to know about Intuitive Surgical’s CEO Dr. Gary Guthart

Here are five things to know about Gary Guthart, PhD, president and CEO of Intuitive Surgical.

1. Dr. Guthart first joined Intuitive Surgical in 1996. Ten years later, he assumed the role of COO.

2. He became CEO in January 2010. Dr. Guthart, however, has been serving as president since 2007.

3. Prior to joining Intuitive Surgical, Dr. Guthart served on the development team for SRI International, formerly known as Stanford Research Institute. There he designed technology for computer-enhanced surgery.

4. Dr. Guthart served on the board of directors for Affymetrix until it was acquired by Thermo Fisher Scientific.

5. Dr. Guthart earned his PhD in engineering science from California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.
