Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, Calif., has performed its first orthopedic procedures with the Mako SmartRobotics system.

The system utilizes 3D CT-based imaging to help orthopedic surgeons create personalized plans for each individual patient, according to a May 19 news release from Providence.

Hemant Reddy, MD, Daniel Driscoll, MD, and Eli Ahdoot, DO, performed the first orthopedic surgeries with the Mako robot at the medical center.

Mako‑assisted orthopedic surgery can be used for partial knee replacements, total knee replacements, total hip replacements and revision hip replacements.

The $1 million robotic investment was fully funded by the Providence Saint Joseph Foundation, the release said.

At the Becker's 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, taking place June 11-13 in Chicago, spine surgeons, orthopedic leaders and ASC executives will come together to explore minimally invasive techniques, ASC growth strategies and innovations shaping the future of outpatient spine care.
