Somers Point, N.J.-based Shore Medical Center has become the first hospital in New Jersey to offer the Velys active robotic assistance platform for spine surgery.

The platform pairs robotic assistance with navigation technology to support surgeons performing back and neck procedures. It uses adaptive tracking to account for patient movement during surgery while maintaining alignment with the surgical plan, according to a June 25 news release.

The technology supports minimally invasive spine procedures and could reduce postoperative pain, shorten hospital stays and speed recovery.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
