MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., recently completed its 500th spine procedure with the Cirq robotic arm, making it the first hospital in the U.S. to reach the milestone.
The Cirq robot is mounted directly on the operating table and improves surgeon precision during complex procedures, according to a June 24 news release from MedStar Health.
The technology is especially helpful when drilling and placing pedicle screws.
“This technology has transformed how we perform spine surgery,” Edward Aulisi, MD, chairman of Neurosurgery at the hospital, said in the release. “Reaching this milestone reflects our strong commitment to providing our patients with the best care possible.”
At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
