The milestone surgery was completed Jan. 27 at Banner Del E Webb Hospital in Sun City, Ariz., the release said. Medtronic’s robot helped Dr. Chung with surgical planning and execution for the ultra-minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion.
“Merging dualPortal endoscopy with robotics has the potential to revolutionize endoscopic TLIF,” Dr. Chung said in the release. “Mazor surgical planning enables optimal working and camera portal placement through screw incisions, streamlining the surgical workflow. Reproducible interbody device placement, an essentially automated contralateral posterior release, precision ipsilateral facetectomy planning, and the elimination of intra-operative fluoroscopy are further substantial benefits. Ultimately, this powerful combination provides surgeons with greater confidence and facilitates the delivery of consistent, predictable outcomes, even in complex cases.”
