Jamie Kay, MD, completed the milestone procedure at Ascension St. Vincent Anderson Hospital, according to the Dec. 15 report. The Mako robot uses a 3D CT-based planning software to help surgeons prepare for cases. During surgery, the robot is designed to help surgeons make more accurate cuts and protect a patient’s healthy bone.

“Being a Mako patient myself, it’s humbling to be able to offer the same pain relief to my patients that I experienced after I had my knee replacement with Mako technology,” Dr. Kay told the newspaper. “Getting patients back to doing what they love is the ultimate goal.”

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
