“Spine surgery is a game of millimeters,” Douglas Crowther, DO, told The Gazette. “If you have a screw that’s off just a couple of millimeters and touching a nerve or compressing a nerve, the patient could have chronic pain.”

ExcelsiusGPS assists surgeons by providing scans of a patient’s anatomy before surgery. It also lets surgeons eliminate the use of radiation imaging during procedures.

Penrose-St. Francis Health Services is reportedly the first hospital in southern Colorado to use the system.

At the Becker's 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, taking place June 11-13 in Chicago, spine surgeons, orthopedic leaders and ASC executives will come together to explore minimally invasive techniques, ASC growth strategies and innovations shaping the future of outpatient spine care.
