Robotics have become commonplace in the orthopedic industry, helping surgeons improve accuracy and efficiency while improving patients outcomes.
Here are eight orthopedic robotics milestones from the first quarter of 2026, as reported by Becker’s:
- Phoenix-based HonorHealth Sonoran Crossing Medical Center performed the nation’s first joint replacement using Stryker’s new Mako RPS handheld robotic system.
- Researchers at Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J., developed the first robotic surgical system for minimally invasive alignment for fractured long bones.
- James Womack, MD, completed the first surgery in the world using Think Surgical’s Tmini miniature robotic system in combination with the Stryker Triathlon knee system.
- Christopher Klifto, MD, performed the first arthroplasty case using the Cori shoulder robot.
- A UChicago Medicine AdventHealth orthopedic clinic in La Grange, Ill., became the first facility in the state to implant the Stryker Triathlon Gold Knee.
- Stryker released the Mako Robotic Power System for total knee in a limited market release.
- Hoag Orthopedic Institute in Irvine, Calif., reached a milestone of 1,500 robot-assisted surgeries.
- Warwick-based Ortho Rhode Island is the first facility in the state to add Stryker’s Mako robot for reverse shoulder replacements.
