5 orthopedic robotics headlines in Q1

From new clearances and debuts, here are five key headlines in orthopedic robotics during the first quarter of 2025.

1. Stryker’s Mako shoulder robot earned FDA approval in December, according to  a Jan. 28 earnings call. The first cases with the Mako shoulder application were also completed in December, CEO Kevin Lobo said. 

2. Think Surgical’s TMINI robot was used with Waldemar Link’s LinkSymphoKnee for the first time at New Albany (Ohio) Surgery Center.

3. The FDA cleared Spineart’s Perla TL application for use with eCential Robotics Op.n robotic navigation platform. 

4. Convergence Medical secured $5 million in series A funding from U.S. investor Avicella Capital. Convergence will use the funds to support plans to commercialize its V01 surgical robot and expand into the U.S. market. Just over a year ago, V01 was accepted into the FDA’s breakthrough device program. 

5. Monogram Technologies earned FDA 510(k) clearance for its  Monogram mBôs robot. The system is designed for total knee replacement and will be able to support more orthopedic applications. Monogram plans an initial launch of the system with key surgeons across different regions.
