Children’s Hospital Los Angeles received a $10 million gift from the Wyss Foundation to support orthopedic care, according to an Aug. 6 news release.
The donation builds on the Wyss Foundation’s past gift to establish the Hansjörg Wyss Orthopedic Trauma Initiative at the hospital in 2020. That initiative helped the hospital increase access to orthopedic trauma care and provide 24-hour coverage in the emergency department with on-call orthopedic specialists.
The new donation will also let CHLA bring orthopedic services to its Santa Monica (Calif.) Specialty Care Center.
“The foundation’s support has had a significant impact on how we can more quickly reach children who need immediate orthopedic care,” CHLA CEO Paul Viviano said in the release. “Since their first gift to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles in 2020, our team members have been able to serve twice as many patients experiencing traumatic injuries and other orthopedic conditions than before and wait times have been reduced.”
