Smith+Nephew has signed an exclusive U.S. distribution agreement with RMR Ortho to add the latter’s A’TOMIC nitinol fixation system to its trauma and extremities portfolio.
The system is designed to improve implant integrity and patient comfort and will expand Smith+Nephew’s offerings in high-frequency fracture and arthrodesis procedures. It uses proprietary manufacturing methods and the shape-memory properties of nitinol to provide compressive fixation implants for fractures, fusions and osteotomies, according to a Feb. 24 news release.
Smith+Nephew plans to leverage its trauma and extremities sales channels to scale adoption across U.S. markets.
