John Kerry flies home with Dr. Dennis Burke after leg fracture in France: 5 things to know

Secretary of State John Kerry departed from Geneva, Switzerland to Boston, accompanied by Dennis Burke, MD, of Massachusetts General Hospital, and other medical personnel after fracturing his right femur, reports the Chicago Tribune.

Here are five things to know, according to the report:

 

1. Mr. Kerry fell from his bicycle on a Tour de France route in France.

 

2. Mr. Kerry received treatment at HUG in Geneva.

 

3. According to State Department spokesman John Kirby, Dr. Burke would monitor Mr. Kerry’s condition en route to Boston.

 

4. After arriving, Mr. Kerry will receive further care at Massachusetts General Hospital.

 

5. Dr. Burke has performed a past hip surgery on Secretary Kerry, according to CNN.
