England university orthopedic research institute featured in national MadeatUni campaign

England-based Bournemouth University’s Orthopaedic Research Institute is featured in Universities UK’s national MadeatUni campaign, which focuses on how university research can improve everyday life.

Here are four things to know:

1. Founded in 2015, ORI aims to collaborate across the university as well as with local hospital and industry partners to improve patient care and develop clinician practice.

2. ORI comprises virtual reality surgical training equipment and a gait real-time analysis interactive laboratory, which is one of 23 in the world.

3. One of ORI’s future projects is a National Institute for Health Research-funded clinical trial to compare standard U.K. National Health Service physiotherapy treatment for hip arthritis to a community-based exercise and educational program.

4. The institute will also carry out one of the first global studies to evaluate robotic hip surgery outcomes.
