Connecticut Orthopaedic Society names Dr. John Fulkerson orthopedist of the year: 6 things to know

The Connecticut Orthopaedic Society honored John Fulkerson, MD, with the 2016 Orthopedist of the Year award, according to a Hartford Courant report.

Here are six things to know:

 

1. Dr. Fulkerson practices with Orthopedic Associates of Hartford in Farmington, Conn.

 

2. He focuses on arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery as well as patellofemoral joint preservation and stabilization surgery.

 

3. He was the head team physician for Connecticut’s only major league team, the NHL Hartford Whalers, until they left the state.

 

4. He founded the International Patellofemoral Study Group, and later, the the Patellofemoral Foundation.

 

5. He is a past president of the Greater Hartford Orthopedic Education and Research Foundation and a master instructor of the Arthroscopy Association of North America.

 

6. The Orthopedist of the Year award is the Connecticut Orthopaedic Society’s highest honor and is given to one orthopedic surgeon in each year.
