Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta names orthopedics chief

S. Clifton Willimon, MD, was named chief of orthopedics and sports medicine center at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, effective Jan. 1.

Dr. Willimon specializes in advanced arthroscopic and reconstructive orthopedic surgical techniques, according to a Jan. 5 news release shared with Becker’s. He completed pediatric orthopedic surgery training at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Scottish Rite Hospital, along with a residency at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.

He returned to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in 2011 and has been practice director of orthopedics and sports medicine since 2021. Dr. Willimon has been medical director of the Atlanta United Academy since 2017 and was the founding medical director of Children’s Orthopedic Quality and Outcomes Program.

“As we welcome Cliff to this new role, we celebrate historic leadership and the tremendous growth and success of the Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Center,” Edwin Smith, MD, Children’s surgeon-in-chief, said in the release. “We look forward to supporting Cliff as he guides the Center into a new and exciting future of care.”
