Bioretec earns FDA breakthrough designation for biodegradable DrillPin

Orthopedic implant manufacturer Bioretec has received a Breakthrough Device Designation by the FDA for its RemeOs DrillPin. 

The magnesium alloy, biodegradable device is used for the fixation of bone fragments in pediatric and adult patients, according to a Dec. 14 news release from Bioretec. 

The DrillPin is also used in the treatment of epi-metaphyseal fractures in pediatric patients with an open growth plate. 

Bioretec was also granted breakthrough status for its RemeOs trauma screw in 2021 and spinal cage in 2024, the release said.
