Charlotte, N.C.-based OrthoCarolina completed the first foot and ankle procedures using Pulmera’s FDA-cleared CBeam 3D Imaging Platform.
The technology was used in four cases: two primary total ankle replacements, a revision total ankle replacement and a cavus foot reconstruction, according to an Aug. 19 news release. The procedures marked CBeam’s first application across joint replacement and complex reconstructive foot and ankle surgery.
CBeam converts conventional 2D surgical C-arms into intraoperative 3D imaging systems. The platform captures a series of X-ray images during a rotational scan and reconstructs them into a 3D dataset for intraoperative visualization.
The foot and ankle procedures follow CBeam’s first clinical uses in three spine fusion procedures, including two multilevel transforaminal lumbar interbody fusions and a multilevel posterior C2-C6 fusion, at Atrium Health’s Mercy Hospital in Charlotte, N.C.
Pulmera plans to continue expanding clinical adoption of CBeam as commercialization progresses, according to the release.
