3 orthopedic surgeon retirements in 2025

So far in 2025, three orthopedic surgeons announced their retirements.

1. Mark Conklin, MD, of Panorama Orthopedics & Spine Center in Golden, Colo., retired on July 25. Dr. Conklin has worked with the practice beginning in 2003, according to his LinkedIn profile. He served as president of the group beginning in 2017.

2. Joe Congeni, MD, a leader in the pediatric sports medicine field, retired Aug. 1. Dr. Congeni practiced for more than four decades, including nearly 40 years as director of sports medicine at Akron Children’s Hospital. At Akron Children’s Dr. Congeni developed the Primary Care Pediatrics Sports Medicine Fellowship at Akron Children’s, the first of its kind at a pediatric hospital in the U.S.

3. William Sterett, MD, an orthopedic surgeon with Vail-Summit Orthopaedics & Neurosurgery plans to retire Dec. 31. Dr. Sterett spent 25 years as head team physician for the U.S. Women’s Alpine Ski Team and worked as a U.S. Olympic Committee Team Physician. In 2012 he received the Leland Sosman Award for Lifetime Achievement from the USSSA.
