Community Howard hospital introduces spinal robot — 3 insights

Community Howard Regional Health in Kokomo, Ind., has installed the Mazor X Stealth Edition, Medtronic’s new robotic guidance system for spinal surgery, reports Kokomo Perspective.

Three insights:

1. The Mazor X is the first robotic machine that the hospital has introduced.

2. The device uses 3D preoperative planning tools to determine precisely where the screw or rod needs to be placed in a patient’s spine.

3. The robotic arm navigates to the exact location where the screw or rod will be placed and enables the surgeon to place the hardware accurately through a small incision.

“The addition of the Mazor X is another step in putting Community Howard at the forefront for advanced orthopedic care in this region,” said Joe Hooper, president of CHRH.
