Four things to know:
1. CMC orthopedic surgeon and medical director Deidre Blake, MD, spearheaded the effort to get the NAVIO system. According to Dr. Blake, it will help CMC offer patients more options, including partial knee replacements.
2. The system is designed to improve surgical implant placement precision.
3. The first NAVIO-assisted surgeries in Ithaca are scheduled for late April.
4. According to Dr. Blake, the transition to robotic-assisted surgery will not require significant training for CMC physicians, as most orthopedic surgeons learned to use the system during residencies at larger hospitals.
