New AI platform targets joint replacement planning

Kinomatic, an AI- and virtual reality-driven orthopedic surgery planning and aftercare company, launched Kinect, a platform connecting surgical planning, case management and surgeon collaboration for knee and hip joint replacements.

The web-based platform brings case data, imaging, communications and surgeon preferences into one system, according to a Sept. 3 news release. Surgeons can use Kinect to review plans, track case progress and manage surgical preferences across devices.

Kinect is also being used to train AI models to perform segmentation. The platform centralizes CT scans, segmentation and planning files into a structured data lake designed to support future AI models that could assist biomedical engineers with surgical planning and help surgeons identify best practices.

The platform stores surgeons’ surgical configurations and applies them across cases. It also automates quality assurance review against each plan’s configuration, including a second engineer’s independent peer review. 

Kinomatic is also partnering with Whoop, a wearable health and fitness technology company, on its RESTORE pilot for joint replacement recovery. The program combines continuous biometric monitoring, dedicated patient navigators, evidence-based protocols and AI-powered care coordination.
