Jason Patterson, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at Phoenix-based OrthoArizona, became the first surgeon worldwide to perform total ankle replacement procedures using Stryker’s Prophecy Incompass patient-specific instrumentation.

Dr. Patterson completed three procedures in July 2026 using the technology, which creates customized, 3D-printed surgical guides from patients’ CT scans, according to an Oct. 26 news release shared with Becker’s.

The technology works with Stryker’s Incompass total ankle system, allowing surgeons to switch between stemmed and pegged implants during surgery based on a patient’s anatomy.

Dr. Patterson has used CT-guided, patient-specific instrumentation for ankle replacements since 2015. OrthoArizona plans to explore the technology’s use in more complex and revision ankle procedures.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
