WVU Medicine United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, W.Va., purchased Medtronic’s new Stealth AXiS surgical system, the hospital said in an April 20 Facebook post.
The Stealth AXiS system was cleared by the FDA earlier this year, and initial cases have been performed by surgeons in Virginia and Kentucky. It uses AI integration to support screw placement and has a real-time alignment tracking system.
“This technology provides us with a high-fidelity ‘digital cockpit,’ allowing for real-time visibility into how a patient’s anatomy moves during a procedure,” Bill Underwood, MD, PhD, a neurosurgeon at the UHC Neurosurgery, Spine, and Pain Center, said in the post. “It ensures we can execute our surgical plans with remarkable precision while maintaining a minimally invasive approach that speeds up patient recovery.”
WVU Medicine United Hospital Center’s purchase comes on the heels of its newly-announced ASC project which will include advance robotic capabilities.
At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
