New York hospital performs its 1st robotic hip replacement

Orthopedic surgeon Prashant Deshmane, MD, has performed Utica, N.Y.-based Wynn Hospital’s first robotic hip procedure using Stryker’s Mako SmartRobotics technology, according to a Sept. 20 report from the Daily Sentinel.

Dr. Deshmane joined the Mohawk Valley Health System Orthopedic Group in early September. He specializes in adult reconstruction, sports medicine and treating hip, knee and shoulder injuries.

The Mako robot allows for less invasive patient procedures, quicker recovery times and less blood loss and infection risk. 

Dr. Deshmane is certified and credentialed to use the Mako robot for total hip and total and partial knee replacements.
