1. ExcelsiusGPS earned FDA 510(k) clearance in 2017. It has an arm with navigation for increased precision with screw placement and is designed to streamline workflows and limit radiation exposure.
2. The system costs about $1.5 million, according to the Journal of Spine Surgery.
3. ExcelsiusGPS can work in tandem with the Excelsius3D spine system, which launched in 2022.
4. In 2023, multiple hospitals and practices, including Jersey City (N.J.) Medical Center and the University of Alabama at Birmingham, added ExcelsiusGPS to their spine programs.
5. ExcelsiusGPS installations are helping Globus Medical’s enabling technologies sales grow. In the second quarter, robot unit placements increased 59% year over year, and robotic case volume grew 26% year over year.
