Dr. Thorsten Seyler debuts Smith+Nephew’s Cori surgical system for revision knee replacement

Thorsten Seyler, MD, a physician at Duke University in Durham, N.C., performed the first revision knee replacements using Smith+Nephew’s Cori surgical system.

Dr. Seyler used the Cori technology in combination with Smith+Nephew’s Legion Revision knee system. 

The Cori surgical system is the first robotic-assisted revision platform to receive FDA 510(k) clearance. 

“The ability to visualize and create symmetric and balanced flexion and extension gaps with the Cori handheld robotic system has made one of the most challenging tasks in revision total knee arthroplasty an easier undertaking,” Dr. Seyler said in a Sept. 26 press release. “I have never used more posterior stabilized over constrained bearings in a revision scenario. Additionally, the image-free system also allows for accurate mapping of bone defects after implant removal and enables surgeons to use a bone preserving approach to revision total knee arthroplasty.”
