Avala is the only hospital in Louisiana offering robotic surgery for total hip, partial and total knee, and spine procedures, officials said in a Dec. 28 news release.

It is one of 12 hospitals in the world with three Stryker Mako robots and also features an ExcelsiusGPS robot, designed by Globus Medical.

“With our cutting-edge robotic technology and expertly trained physicians, we are able to provide patients with a customized surgical experience based on their individual anatomy,” said Samer Shamieh, MD, spine surgeon and medical director of the hospital. “It’s exciting to be able to offer this transformative technology across our orthopedic and spine service lines.”

Earlier this year, Avala established a physician network to meet outpatient needs for neurology, pain management and general surgery, and plans to expand the network to spine and orthopedics.
