The IlluminOss Photodynamic Bone Stabilization System is designed to repair and stabilize patients after a fibula fracture. Thomas Gausepohl, MD, performed the first surgery using the system.
The IlluminOss system can be inserted completely within the internal confines of the bone through a small incision, and once the device is implanted, it inflates to conform to the inside of the bone. This provides axial and rotational stability while avoiding soft tissue irritation associated with under-skin implants.
