Bowen-Hefley Orthopedics completes 1st procedure with Alteon Cup and XLE Liner — 5 insights

Little Rock, Ark.-based Bowen-Hefley Orthopedics’ William Hefley, MD, completed the first total hip arthroplasty procedure using Exactech’s Alteon Cup and XLE Liner.

1. The Alteon Cup and XLE Liner are part of Exactech’s Alteon Platform Hip Replacement System. The cup allows for multiple implant configurations and bearing options. It has an array of surgical uses.

2. Dr. Hefley helped design the Alteon Cup, which he said took two years to develop.

3. On the procedure, Dr. Hefley said, “Two years of development work came together in the operating room today. I’m very pleased with the final design of the Alteon Cup and XLE Liner.”

4. The FDA cleared the Alteon Cup in early March.

5. Exactech will roll out the new products in the second half of 2019.
