Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Shekar Kurpad of Froedtert and Medical College of Wisconsin

Shekar Kurpad, MD, is a board-certified neurosurgeon at Froedtert and Medical College of Wisconsin.

Dr. Kurpad’s career focus is in minimally invasive surgery, spinal fusion and instrumentation and spine surgery. He is considered an expert in malignant brain tumor surgery, and he has extensive research experience in brain tumor biology and spinal cord injuries.

 

Dr. Kurpad has been published in several journals and has authored several book chapters.

 

Dr. Kurpad received his degree from Bangalore University, in Bangalore, India. He then received a doctorate in philosophy from the Duke University School of Medicine. He had a residency in neurological surgery at the University Hospitals of Cleveland, and he followed that with two fellowships; one at the Medical College of Wisconsin and one at the University of Tennessee.

 

Dr. Kurpad is affiliated with Froedtert Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital, in West Bend, Wis., and Community Memorial Hospital.

 

Dr. Kurpad is in charge of a laboratory at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He leads a team of collaborators on studying spinal cord injuries.
