Here are four things to know:
1. Warming up before exercise is imperative to stretch the muscles out and reduce the likelihood of injury.
2. When stretching, only stretch to the point of mild tension. Cease stretching if you ever experience pain. A good rule of thumb is if it hurts, stop doing it.
3. Monitor your breathing when stretching.
4. If you stretch often, you will enhance your flexibility. Stretch as often as possible to see the most gains.
