Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. Ehud Mendel of Ohio State University Medical Center

Ehud Mendel, MD, is a neurosurgeon at Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus and director of OSU’s spine program. He is also the clinical co-director of the OSU Spinal Biodynamics and Ergonomics Laboratory and a professor of neurological surgery at OSU. He has been a member of the Spine Oncology Study Group, a group of physicians responsible for the creation of guidelines for the management of spine tumors. In 2012, he was selected as a surgeon member of The Association for Collaborative Spine Research.

Dr. Mendel is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgeons and is a fellow with the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the Congress of Neurosurgeons and The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center. He serves on the editorial boards of The Internet Journal of Spine Surgery and The Internet Journal of Neurosurgery. He also serves as an ad-hoc reviewer for the Journal of Neuro-Oncology. He has also traveled internationally to present on spine tumor-related topics.

 

Dr. Mendel’s clinical interests include cerebrovascular disorders, cervical herniated discs, lumbar degenerative disc diseases, neurosurgical procedures, neurotrauma, peripheral nerve conditions and spinal tumors. He earned his medical degree at medical degree at Louisiana State University of Health Sciences in New Orleans, and completed his residency at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. He received fellowship training in reconstructive spine surgery at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
