Here’s what you need to know.
1. WKU said WKONA and the Graves-Gilbert Clinic are trying to maintain their agreements with the university to provide sports medicine care to its athletic teams.
“WKONA and GGC’s business and financial interests are intertwined,” said the university. “More important, it is in the best interests of WKONA and GGC that their lucrative arrangements with WKU and WKU Athletics remain unchanged, and a sports medicine facility not be constructed and/or operated on WKU’s campus.”
2. The university’s response suggested that the protest “would set back plans to develop a musculoskeletal campus.”
3. The university also noted that a potential sports medicine campus would impact revenues of a future musculoskeletal campus.
4. University President Gary Ransdell said agreements between the university with the two providers would both be discontinued.
