Here are five things to know:
1. Dr. Matava is a board-certified orthopedic sports medicine surgeon. He is the chief of sports medicine as well as an orthopedic surgery and physical therapy professor at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
2. Dr. Matava is one of 16 people selected for the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame’s Enshrinement in St. Louis in 2018.
3. A former NFL Physicians Society president, Dr. Matava is being honored for his service as a team physician for the St. Louis Rams and St. Louis Blues.
4. Since 1994, Dr. Matava has served as head team physician for Washington University Athletics.
5. He received his medical degree from University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Medicine and underwent sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery fellowship training at Cincinnati Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center.
