Dr. Martin O'Malley examines Cavaliers' Kevin Love's toe: 5 details

Cleveland Cavaliers' forward Kevin Love visited Martin O'Malley, MD, to have his left big toe evaluated, ESPN reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. Mr. Love said he first sustained the toe injury during the team's preseason opener Oct. 2. The All-Star forward did not play again until Oct. 17 during the team's regular season opener.

2. After playing through pain for four more games, Mr. Love has been sitting out since Oct. 25 to rest the injury.

3. Mr. Love had an MRI and was examined by Dr. O'Malley at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. Dr. O'Malley advised Mr. Love to continue resting the injury and said there is not a clear timetable to when he can start playing again.

4. On Oct. 30, Mr. Love said he will miss several weeks due to the injury, which recently began to cause him trouble walking. Surgery has not been ruled out.

5. Dr. O'Malley specializes in foot and ankle surgery and is a team physician for the Brooklyn Nets and USA Basketball.
