Jeremy Scott competed in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London as a pole vaulter, a highlight to his 13-year pole vaulting career. Mr. Scott retired from the sport last year after competing at an elite level, which will earn him a spot in the NCAA Division III Hall of Fame as a 2017 inductee.

Mr. Scott is now attending the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine in Jonesboro, Ark. Throughout his career as an elite athlete, Mr. Scott was attracted to sports medicine and has long dreamed of becoming an orthopedic surgeon. He shadowed an orthopedic surgeon during his time as an undergraduate and witnessed a knee replacement surgery.

According to the report, he knew while observing his first knee replacement surgery that becoming an orthopedic surgeon was what he wanted to do. He eventually graduated from Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa., with a neuroscience degree and then pursued his pole vaulting career.

In addition to attending medical school, Mr. Scott works as an athlete consultant with UST Essx.
