The new website and prevention campaign is called “Not on My Watch.” The campaign delivers continuing education programs to hospital staff and management, including toolkits with informational flyers, patient safety tips and posters, according to the website.
The site has links to detailed information about several types of common healthcare-associated infections, including ventilator-associated pneumonia, surgical-site infections and cross contamination through contact transfer.
It also includes upcoming healthcare-associated infection related events, research and reports, news updates and clinical education.
According to the World Health Organization, 1.4 million people worldwide have an infection they acquired in a hospital at any given time, and a 2007 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report estimated the number of U.S. deaths from HAIs in 2002 at 98,987, according to the Kimberly-Clark site. These infections lengthen hospital stays, increase the likelihood of readmissions and increase overall healthcare costs.
