CU-Boulder to distribute free helmets to students suffering concussions — 4 things to know

The University of Colorado at Boulder’s Student Government will spend $4,500 on helmets that will be distributed to students suffering from concussions, according to the Daily Camera.

Here are four things to know:

 

1. Healthcare providers will give the helmets to CU students seeking treatment for a concussion in the hopes of preventing a second one.

 

2. So far this academic year, nearly 200 students have visited the Wardenburg Health Center on campus for a head injury, though there’s no data on how those students sustained their injuries.

 

3. Thomas Kuntsman, MD, medical director of Wardenburg Health Center, said the health center is making an effort to gather better data on how students get injured.

 

4. The health center has created in interdisciplinary concussion care team to help students get back on their feet and back in the classroom as soon as possible.
