Dr. Jeffrey Kutcher opens sports neurology clinic in Michigan: 6 thoughts

Jeffrey Kutcher, MD, is leaving his clinic at the University of Michigan for the newly opened Sports Neurology Clinic at The CORE Institute in Brighton, Mich., Crain’s Detroit reports.

Here’s what you should know:

 

1. Dr. Kutcher served the clinic at the University of Michigan for 10 years.

 

2. The Core Institute recruited Dr. Kutcher to help address the issue of brain health among athletes.

 

3. Dr. Kutcher is a nationally-known neurologist. He claims he was working with athletes before neurologists became involved in athletics. “I took the program as far as it could go within a university structure,” he said.

 

4. Several other national universities have programs similar to Michigan.

 

5. Dr. Kutcher is hoping to have a national reach at his new clinic, while also serving the population of Southeastern Michigan. The new clinic is 7,000 square feet and features five neurologists, athletic trainers, physical therapists and neuropsychologists.

 

It offers several therapies and diagnostic services for discovering neurological conditions in athletes.

 

6. Despite Dr. Kutcher’s departure the Michigan NeuroSport program continues to grow. It saw a 23 percent increase in patients in the last year.
