Dr. James Andrews performs Tommy John surgery on Royals pitcher Tim Collins

Kansas City Royals left-handed pitcher Tim Collins underwent Tommy John surgery on Wednesday, performed by James Andrews, MD, who is known as one of the ultimate go-to surgeons for injured athletes, according to a report from the Kansas City Star.

Dr. Andrews, who has a practice in Gulf Breeze, Fla., graduated from Louisiana State University in 1963 and completed two surgical fellowships in sports medicine at the University of Virginia School of Medicine and at the University of Lyon.
