Dr. Francis O’Connor receives AMSSM award — 4 details

Francis O’Connor, MD, received the Founders’ Award at the 26th American Medical Society for Sports Medicine Annual Meeting in San Diego on May 9.

Here are four things to know:

 

1. Dr. O’Connor has trained over 100 sports medicine fellows over the course of his career.

 

2. He retired from his role as professor and department chair of military and emergency medicine at Bethesda, Md.-based Uniformed Services University and as medical director of the Consortium on Health and Military Performance in April.

 

3. Dr. O’Connor served on the AMSSM board of directors from 2003 to 2012 and was president from 2010 to 2011.

 

4. Over 100 of his articles have been published in scientific journals and he has edited four sports medicine textbooks.
