4 physicians evaluate San Francisco Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner’s shoulder — 8 insights

Four physicians across the country evaluated San Francisco Giants star pitcher Madison Bumgarner’s injured AC joint, according to The Mercury News.

Here are eight things to know:

 

1. Mr. Bumgarner bruised his ribs and sprained the AC joint in his pitching shoulder on Thurs., April 20 while dirt biking near Denver.

 

2. Giants team orthopedist Ken Akizuki, MD, initially consulted with San Francisco 49ers orthopedist Timothy McAdams, MD, about Mr. Bumgarner’s condition.

 

3. Neal ElAttrache, MD, of Los Angeles-based Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic and James Andrews, MD, of Gulf Breeze, Fla.-based Andrews Institute for Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine evaluated Mr. Bumgarner’s test results, as well.

 

4. The physicians agreed Mr. Bumgarner’s shoulder will heal on its own and won’t require surgery.

 

5. Mr. Bumgarner began rehab activities on Fri., April 28.

 

6. The team hopes Mr. Bumgarner will resume throwing in the end of June, according to the report.

 

7. He is expected to miss at least three months, according to UPI.

 

8. This marks the first time the former World Series MVP has been placed on the disabled list.
