Here are four notes on the four “red light” draftees:
- Shane Ray of Missouri suffered a toe injury and although reports said he would need foot surgery, a private physician disagreed.
- Jay Ajayi of Boise State suffered knee articular cartilage issues and has been playing on it since 2011, but Dr. Chao notes the cartilage may be wearing out.
- Ifo Ekpre-Olomu of Oregon tore his ACL and had surgery in December. Dr. Chao said his hurdles include the initial injury needing to have spared the cartilage and his position as a cornerback requires changing directions, which is the last step in ACL rehab.
- Jalen Strong of Arizona State will likely need surgery after suffering a small bone fracture of the wrist. Mr. Strong states no surgery is needed and passed a physical from Steelers’ physicians, requiring no additional medical check.
