Question: Where do you see the biggest opportunity for bundled payments and other risk-based contracts? Have you considered them for your practice?

Dr. Adam Bruggeman: I elected to pursue [Bundled Payments for Care Improvement] for spine this enrollment period. The data published in various journals is mixed with regards to the success of the original bundles in private practices. I will be evaluating the success of the program over the next six months as we receive data from CMS on the performance of the bundle.

Q: What changes have you made or are you considering for your practice as healthcare moves toward value-based reimbursement and care delivery?

AB: I am collecting more robust and searchable data for my surgical cases and will be looking to provide that information to insurance carriers as part of contract negotiations. In addition, by enrolling in BPCI, we are getting an early look at how my practice would perform and function in a value-based reimbursement system for private payers.
