Question: What are some key trends in neuromodulation?
Dr. Milind Deogaonkar: Use of neuromodulation as a non-narcotic, non-pharmacological option for pain management has been used more widely in recent years. Neuromodulation for headaches, face pain, neuralgias and nerve injuries are all new trends.
Q: How has neurosurgery evolved over the last five years?
MD: It is getting more subspecialty driven and going toward less-invasive solutions for major neurosurgical problems like aneurysms (coiling) and minimally invasive spine surgery.
Q: How do you think value-based care will impact the neurological surgery field?
MD: I think it will mainly impact spine surgery as there are no major randomized trials that show benefit of big spine surgeries in long term.
