Tamia Potter, 26, will begin her residency in July and plans to finish by 2030, according to the report.
She previously spent a month with the Vanderbilt neurosurgery service as a visiting student from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland.
Vanderbilt trained its first neurosurgery resident in 1932. In 2019, there were only 33 Black women in the field of neurosurgery nationwide, the report said.
